Network analysis and verification of data: asymmetry in the statistics of foreign trade statistics of countries in the Asia-Pacific region
The asymmetry in mirror statistics on international trade is a long-known data quality issue in the field of economic, however, its importance is increasing significantly in the data revolution era. The emergence of advanced mathematical models and fast development of information technologies require new comprehensive approaches to data verification and application of modern methods in this process. In this paper, we pay special attention to network analysis becoming extremely popular not only in the sciences, which are traditionally seen as highly quantitative but also in humanities, like the historical sciences.
Obviously, the issue of discrepancies in export and import data is fundamentally important for network models, however, authors often omit the discussion on asymmetry in their publications. To demonstrate the need to discuss this problem while presenting models of international trade, we chose ‘UN Comtrade’, one of the most popular databases, which contains entries from 1988 to 2017. By providing basic descriptive statistics, we show that the amount of contradictions in foreign trade data has greatly increased both for Asia-Pacific and other regions countries. Given the big volume of information in such databases, we also suggest to apply network analysis to identify states that affect asymmetry the most. We conclude that this tool can be incorporated in multi-method approaches to data verification and will increase their efficiency, since such an analysis does not take much time, does not require complex calculations, and can be carried out by people far from programming.
Keywords: international trade, asymmetry, mirror statistics, network analysis, data quality assessment, verification, mathematical modeling, Singapore, Asia-Pacific, United Nations.

Khrushchev's anti-religious campaign of 1954 - 1964: practical implementation and results
The article reveals the instrumental complex of Khrushchev's persecutions in the process of adoption by state structures of special normative and legal acts that violated the rights of believers, the realization of a wide range of economic sanctions aimed at undermining the economic base of the Russian Orthodox Church (hereinafter - the ROC), carrying out anti-religious propaganda, including with the active participation of people who openly broke with religion. All this was directed, first of all, to the Soviet youth and assumed the wide use of the administrative resource for pressure on the clergy and laity. At the same time, under the conditions of a relative weakening of the totalitarian regime as a result of the debunking of the cult of the personality of I.V.Stalin and the policy of the "thaw", believers had the opportunity to protect their religious rights by the legal methods. While in the 20 - 30 - ies of XX century, the state used undisguised violence against the clergy and laity. It is obvious that Khrushchev had to take into account the increased role of the ROC in Soviet society after the Great Patriotic War and partial warming in state - church relations in the 1940 - s and early 1950 - s, however, despite all the activities of the anti-religious campaign, it failed. Such a result was explained by the inefficiency of the methods of its realization, their lack of forethought when used against believers.
