Digital transformation of higher education: pedagogical opportunities and risks of applying artificial intelligence technologies

The article presents a comprehensive analysis of the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies into higher education processes based on a systematic review of empirical and theoretical studies from 2021–2025. It examines the pedagogical advantages of AI, including personalized learning, automated assessment, and predictive analytics, as well as key challenges such as the deficit of digital competencies among educators, risks to academic integrity, and ethical and organizational barriers. Drawing on representative surveys of students and teachers (over 1,200 respondents) and a content analysis of 270 Russian publications, statistically significant patterns are identified: high student interest (up to 85 %) is combined with insufficient preparedness of the teaching staff (73.6 % report a knowledge deficit). The necessity of an interdisciplinary approach to developing digital competence, creating ethical regulations, and implementing professional development programs is substantiated. The findings emphasize the direct link between the level of AI integration and the quality of educational outcomes, proposing a model for balanced implementation where AI serves not as a replacement but as an enhancement of pedagogical expertise. The conclusions hold practical significance for developing federal and institutional strategies for the digital transformation of education.
Key words: artificial intelligence, higher education, pedagogical technologies, personalized learning, digital competence of teachers, ethical challenges.

Theoretical aspects of applying a local history component in teaching natural science disciplines

Objective: to demonstrate the possibilities and ways of integrating elements of a local history component into natural science lessons. The psychological and pedagogical value of local history lies in its natural integration of students' intellectual, emotional, and practical development. Local history develops students' cognitive and communicative skills. Field trips, joint projects, and group work require interaction, sharing of observations, and the coordination of opinions. As a result, a harmonious combination of cognitive, emotional, and moral aspects of the individual is formed. Theoretical analysis confirmed that the local history approach to teaching is based on the principles of visualization, systematicity, and activity-based learning. Local material does not replace the federal curriculum, but rather expands and concretizes its content. Biological objects from the native region become a natural illustration of the general laws of nature, which facilitates a more robust knowledge acquisition.
Key words: local history approach, natural science cycle, educational process, psychological and pedagogical value, the surrounding world, principle of visualization.

Educational - methodological paradigm of the 21st century in teaching foreign languages in light of new trends in education

This article examines new trends in education, specifically the role of artificial intelligence within the educational-methodological paradigm of teaching and learning foreign languages. The comparative analysis of educational-methodological paradigms and methodological approaches in teaching foreign languages is provided. Particular attention is paid to the use of artificial intelligence within the communicative-pragmatic, anthropocentric paradigm.
Introduction. A vast range of teaching methods exists in the field of foreign language teaching theory. Four types of educational and methodological paradigms can be identified, guiding the thinking of scholars, teachers and methodologists and determining the choice of methodological approaches for solving research problems and practice in foreign language teaching methods. Each paradigm is characterized by its own approaches to teaching and its own distinctive features (characteristics). The use of new digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI) in particular, offers new opportunities for teaching and learning foreign languages, leading to rapid and effective results, namely, the activation of learners’ productive activity and access to the real sociocultural context of communication in foreign languages. The purpose of this article is to provide a detailed analysis of scientific and methodological paradigms in foreign language teaching in the second half of the 20th and first half of the 21st centuries, the evolution of their approaches, and the use of teaching models.
Research Materials and Methods. The primary research methods in this article are conceptual analysis, comparative analysis, observation, and forecasting based on theoretical principles. The theoretical basis for this article is the theories and concepts of Russian and foreign scholars and methodologists of the 20th and 21st centuries devoted to the formation and evolution of scientific and methodological paradigms in foreign language teaching. The empirical basis is the construction of a model of the educational and methodological paradigm for 21st-century foreign language teaching.
Research Results. The results of the study may be useful in teaching subjects related to foreign language teaching methods, as well as in school and university practices using various approaches and teaching models. They may also serve as a basis for differentiating approaches within the anthropocentric paradigm of foreign language teaching.
Discussion and Conclusions. Through the study and analysis of educational-methodological paradigms, models of foreign language teaching, and the use of innovative digital technologies, AI in particular, attention was paid to the evolution of approaches to teaching this discipline. Distinctive features of educational-methodological paradigms from the second half of the 20th and early 21st centuries were examined. The study resulted in the development of a model of the communicative-pragmatic/anthropocentric paradigm for teaching foreign languages.
Key words: educational-methodological paradigm, foreign languages, approaches, models, competencies, digital technologies, artificial intelligence (AI), intelligent learning systems (ILS).

Methodological bases of discussion platforms as a space for improving pedagogical skills

This paper focuses on the study of the methodological foundations of discussion platforms in educational institutions in order to improve pedagogical skills. A discussion platform is an interesting form of organizing the activities of teachers in the modern educational process. It is a space where it is possible not only to receive answers to important questions, but also to develop effective solutions to the most significant problems.
By considering various formats of discussions, the author identifies their specific characteristics and activates the methodological foundations that allow for the solution of professional tasks. The main advantage of discussion platforms is that they are implemented with the participation of practical specialists, and by integrating pedagogical theory and social experience, the construction of professional activity models will be as effective as possible.
By examining the methodology of organizing this form of work, the author draws on the competency-based and sociocultural approaches, as well as the principles of cooperative pedagogy, to create a universal strategy for modeling a discussion platform. Given that the main result of the discussion platform's work is to improve pedagogical skills, this professional quality is given priority in the study.
The purpose of the work is to specify the methodological concepts that form the basis for the creation of discussion platforms. The object is the educational space, and the subject is pedagogical skills.
Key words: pedagogical skills, discussion platform, work format, communication, educational space, competence-based approach, sociocultural approach, and pedagogical practice.

Developing grammar skills in primary school students through mobile applications in English lessons

The article deals with the methodological analysis of the use of the LearningApps digital service in teaching English grammar at primary school. The focus is placed not so much on the technical functionality of the platform as on the pedagogical logic of its integration into grammar instruction. The research interest is обусловлен the fact that interactive exercises are widely used in school practice, while the issue of their actual methodological effectiveness, especially for younger learners, remains debatable. The paper examines the conditions under which LearningApps contributes not merely to making a lesson more dynamic, but to a more stable acquisition of grammatical structures. The study draws on works in foreign language teaching methodology, publications on digital educational resources, as well as school coursebooks used in primary and lower secondary education. The content of grammatical competence as a component of foreign language training is clarified; age-related limitations and cognitive characteristics of younger learners affecting the choice of digital formats are considered. It is shown that interactive exercises become effective when they are included in a staged system of presentation, practice, revision and control. Using typical LearningApps tasks, the paper analyses exercise formats suitable for teaching Present Simple, Present Continuous, the verb to be, word order and prepositions of place. It is concluded that the pedagogical value of the platform depends not on the mere fact of using it, but on the precision of exercise design, the volume and character of the language material, and the position of the task within the lesson structure.
Key words: grammatical competence, English language, primary school, digital educational resources, LearningApps, interactive exercises, teaching methodology.

Formation of a future foreign language teacher’s linguistic self-educational trajectory in the experimental work of a pedagogical University

The article presents a theoretical substantiation and the results of an experimental verification of a set of pedagogical conditions ensuring the formation of a linguistic self-educational trajectory in future foreign language teachers. The initial contradiction was that the normative requirement for a teacher’s self-development conflicts with the linear logic of the educational process, where genuine student autonomy often remains merely declarative. The aim of the study lay in substantiating and verifying a set of conditions including value-oriented, information-resource, practice-productive, and reflexive-regulatory components. The empirical basis comprised diagnostic data from 520 students at three universities (Lugansk State Pedagogical University, Kabardino-Balkarian State University named after H.M. Berbekov, and Melitopol State University). The research instruments included the questionnaires «Language Autonomy Passport», “Matrix of Internal/External Motivation», and “Digital Readiness Index»; statistical processing was carried out using Student’s t-test and Pearson’s χ² test. The obtained data confirm the effectiveness of purposeful pedagogical support.
Key words: linguistic self-educational trajectory, future foreign language teacher, pedagogical conditions, metacognitive skills, self-education motivation, digital educational environment, experimental work, χ² criterion.

The future image and motivational sphere of adolescents in orphanage and family upbringing

The article is devoted to a comparative analysis of the future image among adolescents in different social conditions: those raised in institutional care (orphanages) and those living in families. An empirical study was conducted on a sample of 12 adolescents aged 12 to 16 years (6 orphanage residents and 6 adolescents from families) using the method of "Motivational Induction" (МИМ) by J. Nuttin, adapted by N.N. Tolstykh. The analysis of the results was carried out according to the parameters of time perspective, locus of control, affective tone and meaningful categories of motives. The results of the study showed that orphanage residents are dominated by compensatory motives aimed at compensating for the deficit of family ties, there is a "frozen" present or a blurred future, a high percentage of refusals to answer ("I don't know") and an external locus of control. In contrast, adolescents from families demonstrate specific goal-setting focused on development and pleasure, a lively time perspective, as well as a higher level of reflection and an internal locus of control (especially among girls). The practical significance of the study lies in the possibility of using the results to develop programs for psychological and pedagogical support aimed at developing reflection and goal-setting among adolescents from orphanages.
Key words: future image, motivational sphere, time perspective, adolescents, orphanage, J. Nuttin's method of motivational induction, locus of control.

Revival and activities of the Adyghe public organizations in the north-western Caucasus in the 1990s

The article examines the activities of the Adyghe (Circassian) public organizations in the North-Western Caucasus in the 1990s – a turning point when the collapse of the USSR and the formation of the new Russian statehood provoked the rise of ethnic self-consciousness. Using the case of the Krasnodar Regional Public Organization “Adyghe Khase Society of the Black Sea Adyghe-Shapsugs”, the study identifies three main areas of its activity: cultural and educational (revival of language, traditions, folklore), lobbying (demands for the restoration of the Shapsug National District and for granting official status to the Shapsug language) and international (support for repatriation of the Adyghes from Turkey, Syria and Jordan). Based on the author’s field materials (interviews with the organization’s leaders, data from the Sochi city administration), archival documents and media publications, the paper traces the evolution of Adyghe organizations from politicized declarations of the early 1990s to the implementation of cultural and educational functions by the end of the decade. It is concluded that this transformation was caused both by the strengthening of the power vertical and the depoliticization of ethnicity on behalf of the federal center, as well as by internal factors – the change of generations of leaders and their reorientation from political demands to cultural and educational activities supported by state structures.
Key words: Adyghe, Shapsugs, Adyghe Khase, national public organizations, Northwest Caucasus, Shapsug national region, repatriation, depoliticization of ethnicity, identity.

Japan and China: economic interdependence and regional rivalry

The article is devoted to the analysis of regional cooperation between Japan and China in the context of ongoing political tensions. It is shown that the Japanese line, which goes back to the logic of "Eurasian diplomacy", was aimed at integrating the growing Chinese influence into institutionalized regional formats. At the same time, the deepening of economic ties has not led to a reduction in political contradictions. Using the example of the Belt and Road initiatives, FOIP, the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the VPTPP and the VREP, the author shows that regional architecture has become a space not only for cooperation, but also for competition for norms, rules and infrastructure solutions. It is concluded that modern Japanese-Chinese interaction has a dual character: economic cooperation mitigates certain manifestations of tension, but does not eliminate the structural causes of discrepancies and does not prevent their periodic aggravation. It is also noted that in the 2020s. Economic relations are increasingly understood by the parties through the prism of national security, while public perception of each other continues to deteriorate.

Differences in the Novgorod and Pskov chronicles in the context of controversial issues in the history of Pskov-Novgorod relations during the period of increased crusader expansion in the late 1230s and early 1240s

The events of 1238-1242 were a time of severe trials for the Russian lands. This is probably why a number of contradictory accounts appear in the Pskov and Novgorod chronicles. It is possible that this was a result of significant political conflicts within the Russian feudal elite, including the Novgorod and Pskov boyars and the Russian princes who ruled in the lands of the Russian North-West. In addition, there was a chronological confusion in the Pskov Chronicle of those years, in the Pskov 1st, Pskov 2nd, and Pskov 3rd Chronicles, and there were insertions from a later period. Only a thorough source-study analysis allows us to accurately determine the chronology of events and identify the political motives that prevailed among the Russian feudal elite at that time. However, there are fewer discrepancies in the descriptions of events related to the second half of 1240 in the Novgorod and Pskov chronicles. However, the final chronological agreement occurs in the early spring of 1242, as all the Russian chronicles agree on the date of the liberation of Pskov from the Livonians and the date of the Battle of Chudskoye.
Key words: Pskov Chronicles, Novgorod Chronicles, Livonian Order, crusade, Izborsk, Pskov, Prince Alexander.

Formation of Russian-Belarusian political relations in 1991-1999

The Russian Federation and the Republic of Belarus have been close allies for over thirty years. The history of the two countries is closely intertwined: the territory of modern-day Belarus was part of the Russian Empire. The Byelorussian Soviet Socialist Republic and the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic were founding members of the Soviet Union. Belarus has been and remains a key ally of Russia in the post-Soviet space. The peoples of Russia and Belarus remain close to each other, and the two countries share a similar mentality, with the Russian language being the native language of most of their citizens. A significant portion of the Russian and Belarusian populations support the inter-allied relationship between the two countries. Cooperation between Russia and Belarus is developing in a wide range of areas: economic, political, cultural, and military. The alliance between the two countries has demonstrated its strength and resilience in the face of external pressure. This article examines the development of Russian-Belarusian relations after the collapse of the Soviet Union and before the signing of the Union Treaty, and identifies the motivations of the Russian and Belarusian leaderships.

The political background of the National Socialists' rise to power in 1933

This research paper focuses on a systematic analysis of the political prerequisites for the legal transfer of power to the NSDAP on January 30, 1933. It examines the complex factors that contributed to the collapse of the Weimar Republic, including the constitutional dualism of the executive branch with the mechanism of emergency decrees (Article 48), the fragmentation of the party system due to the proportional electoral system without a threshold, and the political polarization and division of the labor movement. Special attention is paid to the impact of the Great Depression on the radicalization of the electorate, the transformation of the NSDAP into the "people's Party" (Volkspartei) and the growth of its representation in the Reichstag from 2.6% (1928) to 37.4% (July 1932). The article examines the institution of "presidential cabinets" (1930-1932) as a transitional form to authoritarian rule, and shows the erosion of parliamentary institutions, which culminated in the "Prussian coup" of July 20, 1932. Based on the analysis of the January 1933 negotiations, the article reveals the mechanism of Hitler's appointment as Reich Chancellor as a result of a behind-the-scenes deal between the Nazi leadership and conservative elites (the presidential entourage, big business, and the agrarian lobby). The article concludes that the collapse of the first German democracy was a natural but not fatal outcome, caused by a combination of institutional, socio-economic, and elite factors.
Key words: Weimar Republic, National Socialism, NSDAP, rise to power 1933, presidential cabinets, Great Depression, radicalization of the electorate, political elites, Adolf Hitler, Franz von Papen, collapse of democracy.

Developing financial literacy in 6th grade students based on the disclosure of historical facts about the formation of the monetary system of ancient Rus

The current educational policy of the Russian Federation is focused on the formation of students' functional literacy and the strengthening of traditional spiritual and moral values. However, the potential of historical material, especially from the period of Ancient Rus, for the development of financial literacy and the formation of civic identity is used only partially. The existing methodological developments are dominated by a formal and descriptive approach to the study of economic topics, which does not involve personal reflection on historical experiences. There is a contradiction between the high didactic potential of historical facts about the development of the monetary system in Ancient Rus and the insufficient development of methods for using them in the educational process of 6th grade students. The purpose of this study is to address this contradiction. To theoretically substantiate and develop methodological approaches to developing the financial literacy of 6th grade students based on revealing the historical facts of the formation of the monetary system of the Old Russian state (9th–12th centuries). The proposed approach was confirmed to be effective in the approbation. The students demonstrated an understanding of the connection between economic sovereignty and political independence, using the concepts of "state sovereignty," "country prestige," and "symbol of independence." The study revealed an increase in the quality of subject knowledge, the development of meta-subject skills, and the formation of values that align with traditional Russian spiritual and moral values. The proposed methodology can be recommended for use in the educational process by history and social studies teachers.
Key words: financial literacy, financial culture, history of Ancient Rus, monetary system, meta-subject approach, civic identity, history teaching methodology, 6th grade.

Issues of Kazakh education in the Tatar press at the beginning of the 20th century

During the period of relative freedom that emerged in Russia between 1905 and 1917, the Tatars, especially with the support of wealthy merchants, established new-method educational institutions and printing presses. In these institutions, old-style teaching methods were abandoned in favor of new programs aimed at the development of Russian Muslims. Teachers trained in this new method in places such as Crimea, Kazan, Orenburg, and Troitsk also traveled to regions with dense Kazakh populations, such as Semey, Yedisu, Turgay, and Ural. These reformist mollas brought the usul-u jadid method to the Turkic peoples of Russia and supported the Turkic societies of Central Asia in the areas of printing, press, education, and socio-cultural development. The Shura magazine, published from the printing house founded by M. Zakir and M. Şakir Remiyef in Orenburg, were among the longest-running publications in the Tatar press. These publications covered educational issues concerning the Kazakhs in detail, both by Kazakh writers and Tatar mollas teaching in Kazakh schools. Among the main topics discussed in these publications were: the public’s lack of interest in educating their children, the absence of schools for girls, curriculum content, the issue of printing in Kazakh, the lack of textbooks in the Kazakh dialect, the fact that Tatar and Kazakh children were educated together in the Tatar dialect, and the views of both Tatar and Kazakh writers on this matter, as well as the idea of a common script.
These articles, written by Turkic intellectuals and providing an objective understanding of the public’s mentality on the subject, are considered among the primary sources of that period.
Key words: Tatar press, education among Kazakhs, usul-u jadid, modernization in education, Kazakhs in the Tatar press.

Ideological transformation: the replacement of history by sociology (1920) and the return to the subject (1934)

The article analyzes one of the key turning points in the history of Russian education: the abandonment of teaching history as an independent discipline in the 1920s and its subsequent return in 1934. Based on a wide range of sources, the article examines the ideological foundations of the elimination of history, the content and structure of the social studies course, and the reasons that prompted the Soviet leadership to restore the subject. Special attention is given to the analysis of the patriotic component of the 1934 reform, which is viewed in the context of foreign policy threats and the need to consolidate Soviet society. The article is intended for students of history faculties, researchers of the history of education, and all those interested in the problems of interaction between the government and historical science.

Varangian problem in context of data of paleoanthropology and paleogenetics

Presence of small number of people of Germanic (most possibly Scandinavian) origin is confirmed, basing upon craniometric analysis of remains of 298 persons, who lived in ancient Russian lands in Varangian times. This number may assessed in preliminary terms from 6.37% to 19.40% of total population, depending on time and location. Basing upon paleogenetic analysis of Y-chromosome haplogroups, it is demonstrated that Varangians mentioned in old Russian chronicles formed, most likely, a quite multi-ethnic community, dominated by people from Western Europe, Scandinavia, and also representatives of ancient Russian tribes. Paleoanthropology and paleogenetics thus seem to be very constructive for elaboration of the Varangian problem, which is focal for the Russian historiography.

Institutionalization of a closed communication model of industrial science in the Soviet period

This article examines the formation of the organizational structure and communication practices of industrial science in the USSR. It demonstrates that it was during the Soviet period that the imperial preconditions for departmental secrecy were hyperbolized. Centralized planning, a mobilization regime, and a focus on defense tasks led to the creation of a vast network of industrial research institutes operating under the laws of closed communication. Particular attention is paid to the mechanisms of this secrecy: the priority of departmental reporting over open publications, the role of the Higher Attestation Commission (HAC) system, and the specific nature of Soviet scientific periodicals. It is concluded that Soviet industrial science became a classic example of an autarkic model, the consequences of which are still evident today.

On the issue of staffing the people's militia regiments on the eve of 1812

This article is devoted to the issue of staffing militia regiments on the eve of the Napoleonic Wars. The article's purpose is to analyze the problem of logistical support for the militia regiments formed on the eve of the Napoleonic Wars. The author examines the experience of the Voronezh Governorate authorities in forming jaeger and infantry regiments. The governor of the Voronezh Governorate, together with the Tambov and Ryazan governors, participated in resolving the issue of supplying the formed jaeger and infantry regiments of the militia in Voronezh, Tambov, and Ryazan. The author analyzes the difficulties the governors faced in achieving these objectives, as well as the personal contribution of the officer corps to the formation and logistical support of the regiments.
In the context of preparations for the Napoleonic Wars, the role of the Russian nobility in the formation and readiness of the militia was indeed key. The nobility was viewed as a reliable social group loyal to Emperor Alexander I. The 1812 Manifesto called on the nobility to actively participate in organizing the people's militia, especially in regions with officer shortages. Not only did nobles participate in the formation of militia units, but they also often held command positions, ensuring combat training and discipline. In provinces where professional officers were in short supply, the nobility assumed responsibility for mobilizing and training militias, compensating for the personnel shortage. The appeal to the nobility emphasized its patriotic mission—defending the Fatherland from external threats—which strengthened the unity of the elite and the people in the confrontation with Napoleon.
Key words: people's militia regiments, the war with Napoleon, material supplies of people's militia regiments, recruits.
